Saint Francis of Assisi

Saint Francis

Saint Francis of Assisi’s feast day is October 4. Giovanni Francesco Bernardone was born in 1181 or 1182 and died October 3, 1226. He founded the Order of Friars Minor, commonly known as the Franciscans. He is the patron saint of animals and the environment, and Italy. Churches often hold services with animals near to his feast day of October 4.

Some resources for around his feast day may be found on this site for Saint Francis.

There is an element of Throwback Thursday in this post.

  1. One of my favourite children’s books is St Francis’ Canticle of the Sun prayer set by Reeve Lindbergh and illustrated by Kathy Felstead: ‘The Circle of Days’. It’s perfect!

I used to take my dog and child ( and once a gerbil! ) to those animal blessing services, happy days, and St Francis quotations are *the* best encouragement.

    Thanks Bosco.

    1. I’ve just found that book online, thanks Tracy. [I don’t think I’ll buy they $1,000 new one – LOL!] A nice second-hand one might be great. Thanks for sharing that. Blessings.

      1. $1000? Blimey!
No, there are way better things to do with $1000 ( like the Thomas Merton movie )

        🙂

St Francis: ‘You cannot all abandon your possessions, but at least you can change your attitude about them. All getting separates you from others; all giving unites to others.’

Mine was in the Amazon second hand section, it’s been donated and replaced many times over the years, mainly to current atheists who still love good prayers.

        1. I tend to find, Tracy, that when, with most atheists, I ask them what “God” they don’t believe in – that I don’t believe in that “God” either 🙂 Blessings.
