Almighty God, from whom all good things come:
You called Ignatius of Loyola to the service of your Divine Majesty
and to find you in all things.
Inspired by his example and strengthened by his companionship,
may we labor without counting the cost
and seek no reward other than knowing that we do your will;
through Jesus Christ our Savior,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Ignatius Loyola teaches us wellbeing, living in the moment, cognitive behavioural therapy, gratitude, mindfulness, simplicity, and living a life of balance.
As part of my recent walking of the Camino, I stopped and prayed at the place in Pamplona where Ignatius Loyola was wounded – this was the beginning of his conversion from ostentatious knight to close follower of Jesus. This year, it is 800 years since St Francis of Assisi set up a live Nativity scene in a cave in the Italian village of Greccio. There were live animals and a hay-filled manger to help people bring to mind the events described in the Gospels.
O God,
may your ceaseless mercy
cleanse and defend your church,
and, since it cannot stand firm without you,
guide and govern it always by your goodness;
through Jesus Christ
who is alive with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
