Easter is fifty days

chart for Lent and Easter Seasons

If you agree that Easter is a season not just a day or a week, and that the season lasts fifty days (as is clear at the Council of Nicaea), then please click that you are “going” to Easter is Fifty Days.

Easter is a seventh of the year, the Great Sunday of the year, the 50 days of the Early Church. The Easter Candle is lit from Easter Day through the Day of Pentecost. The colour is White throughout the fifty days. We proclaim “Alleluia!” at almost every turn through Easter.

  1. As much as Christmas is easy for most people, Easter is difficult I think Bosco.

Almost no one is able to do a modern traditional forty day fast of penance and prayer; the misery and injustice of the crucifixion and incredible sacrifice is unbearable cruelty and sadness post-Christ in ( for those luckiest ) kinder, more sensitive, less violent times; and in the scientific era the resurrection is at best…subjective.

As usual for me at leat you are spot on in pin-pointing a liturgical event which should be the focus of our religion.

But how and why as with so many things are currently not really discussed any more. We rely on legalism- even as scandal after scandal unfolds which shows this doesn’t work.

Passover was the initial spiritual and practical freedom from slavery.

So why are we still enslaved by other paradigms?

    We dance around our truths:

‘We dance round in a ring and suppose,
But the Secret sits in the middle and knows.’

    ~Robert Frost

‘Even if a unity of faith is not possible, a unity of love is’. Hans Urs von Balthasar.

But only if that’s what we truly seek from our religions.
