  1. Lovely sentiment. Shame the Roman Communion has disenfrancised “Christmas” Catholics by changing the words, and therfore marginalizing full and active participation. What a Christmas gift to those who would seek Christ this Christmas? Gives a new meaning to “no room at the inn,” as there now is no room for those who seek the succour of a message they can understand. Liturgy should never have to be explained, but now for most it is indecipherable. Church leaders are fulfiling 1 Timothy 1:6-7 “Some people have deviated from these and turned to meaningless talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make assertions. “

  2. Was Jesus the ultimate gift given to humanity or has the story of Christmas been repeated every time someone makes the decision to give of themselves for the life of the world? In other words, is it a mere representation of greater truths about the laws of relationship…?

Jesus was the incarnation of God, in the person of Jesus, God was with us. A human being in whom was everything that was and is and will be God, divinely present in that one moment. A unique gift, which had never occurred before and which will never be repeated.

  4. That’s based on the assumption that Jesus was also God.But what makes you believe that Jesus was God? As opposed to being a representation of life-giving sacrifice that happens every day?

    1. Yes, Elizabeth, I believe Jesus is fully divine and fully human. I don’t know if I would express it that anything “makes” me believe that. Why I believe that is probably a book – not a quick reply on a beautiful sunny day in a city once-again devastated by the ongoing earthquakes. Nor would I “oppose” “God” to “life-giving sacrifice that happens every day” – in my mind they are connected not contrasted. Blessings.
