Resources for Lent 2

Some are celebrating the Transfiguration this Sunday (Luke 9:28-36), others are reading Luke 13:31-35. Here are some reflections for starters

Second Sunday in Lent February 28 (Transfiguration option) from the collect/opening prayer
Second Sunday in Lent February 28 (CofE Common Worship) from the collect/opening prayer

O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy:
Be gracious to all who have gone astry from your ways,
and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith
to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son;
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

  1. Our worship this season combines the traditional Rite II Eucharist Prayer A from the BCP. We open with silence, a silent processional, then an opening hymn. We move to the Kyrie and Confession. We have intentionally created room for more silence, as our way of opening up the worship to invite us all into a deeper, more intentional Lenten experience. Our corporate silence is counterbalanced by our lifting our voices together in song – including a setting of the Nicene Creed and a fraction anthem. (There is silence after the Anthem at the Sequence, after the sermon, before the Eucharist… we work up to 8 to 10 minutes of intentional silence within the service.) Entering into the silence allows us to quiet ourselves so we are free to wonder about our relationship with God and how God might be acting in the world right this moment. It is my hope that we may find room to breathe and wonder and pray in the desert silence. “For God alone, my soul in silence waits.”
