O God,
whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread:
Open the eyes of our faith,
that we may behold him in all his redeeming work;
who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Roman Catholic collect/opening prayer
Semper exsultet populus tuus, Deus,
renovata animae iuventute,
ut, qui nunc laetatur in adoptionis se gloriam restitutum,
resurrectionis diem spe certae gratulationis exspectet.
This combines the prayer over the people in the Gelasian Sacramentary (c628-715) and a prayer for the dead from the Sacramentary of Verona (c400-560).
O God, let your people always rejoice,
now that the youth of their spirit has been renewed,
so that, he who now rejoices that he has been restored in the glory of spiritual adoption
may await the day of the resurrection in the hope of sure thanksgiving.
Let your people for ever exult, O God,
let the joy of their youth be renewed,
that we who now rejoice to be your adopted children
may look forward with certain hope to the day of resurrection.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
May your people for ever exult, O God,
in renewed youthfulness of spirit,
so that rejoicing now in the restored glory of our adoption
we may look forward in confident hope
to the rejoicing of the day of resurrection.

Alternative Opening Prayer from ICEL 1998:
O God of mystery,
out of death you delivered Christ Jesus,
and he walked in hidden glory with his disciples.
Stir up our faith,
that our hearts may burn within us at the sound of his word
and our eyes be opened to recognise him in the breaking of the bread.
Grant this through Jesus Christ,
the firstborn from the dead,
who lives and reigns with you now and always
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
