Thanks to people who pointed out the above video. Fifteen uncoupled simple pendulums of monotonically increasing lengths dance together to produce visual travelling waves, standing waves, beating, and (seemingly – I’ll come back to this) random motion. I love some of the comments: “Does it do the same pattern every time or is it random?”
