I recently had the privilege of leading a pre-ordination retreat for three people to be ordained deacon and one person to be ordained a priest, and of preaching at the ordination to the diaconate. The readings were:
Joshua 1: 1-9
1 Peter 4: 7-11
John 12: 20-26
And I also made a particular focus on this collect:
Eternal God,
light of the minds that know you,
joy of the hearts that love you,
strength of the wills that serve you;
grant us so to know you that we may truly love you,
and so to love you that we may gladly serve you,
now and always.
