Christ has died

crucifixion16thcentury

In the icon the cross is the axis of the world.
It is the Tree of Life. Golgotha is presented as the site of Adam’s burial. The skull represents that. The blood of Christ flows onto humanity represented by Adam and Eve. The cross echoes the tree from which
Adam and Eve ate. You are welcome and invited to add your own reflections in the comments.
