Sabbath Torah reading 7 Elul 5772

The Torah reading in the synagogue this Sabbath is Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9

If you count from Tishri, then Elul (אֱלוּל) is the last month of the year. We are in the forty day “Season of Teshuvah” that culminates on Yom Kippur (this year, September 25-26). Hence, this is a time of reflection, of repentance.

Beginning on Rosh Chodesh Elul and continuing until the day before Rosh Hashanah (this year, September 16-18), it is customary to blow the shofar (ram’s horn) every day (except for Shabbat).

The Three-year Bible reading journey reads the Torah with the synagogue.
