I loved the words on faith and doubt! Any idea where I might find that?
I’ve always had the idea that I enjoy Thomas Merton, but I have only read a little of his work.
His life is very provoking. Like those words on leaving comfort in the third clip.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the encouragement, Christine. Those words are in Chapter 15 of New Seeds of Contemplation, one of his most famous and accessible books.
Wonderful. Thank you. I think I know what is next on my reading list!
A very powerful film. I first saw it on my sabbatical in 2008 when I spent Holy Week and Easter at the Merton Institute for Contemplative Living near Gethsemane Abbey. http://www.mertoninstitute.org/
A very good place for retreat. Or subscribe for the weekly reflection.
I believe Thomas Merton still has much to say to us– especially to current situations.
Thanks so much for this. I have read and been influenced a lot by Merton. It was very interesting to note that his monestary teachs no techniques of meditation or contemplation. This ties into the Monks of Mt. Skete’s great book that I am now reading. Strange how we put so much emphasis on technique. Fr. Lawerence would say it is to avoid facing ourselves…
