Traditionally the Thursday after Trinity Sunday (this year June 11) is celebrated as Corpus Christi. Some translate this celebration to next Sunday. In the Anglican Church in New Zealand the coming Sunday is designated as Te Pouhere Sunday to “celebrate our life as a three Tikanga Church”. This site is firmly committed to the ecumenical, international Revised Common Lectionary and will leave it to others to advocate elsewhere for departing from this to celebrate a cultural constitutional arrangement with its own readings and other propers. I merely note that in the NZ Lectionary the readings for the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time are provided as an acceptable alternative to the proper of Te Pouhere Sunday.
A reflection for Corpus Christi is found in this link.
Oh dear, this Sunday I may be out of communion with both RCL ecumenism and the cultural constitutional arrangements in these islands! But I hope transferring the readings and prayers for St Barnabas (also today) to Sunday for the sake of the patronal celebrations of a St Barnabas parish might be excused!
