I am convinced that ancient, timeworn disciplines and wisdom – especially from our Christian roots in the desert, refined in the monastic laboratory – can enable and enrich our contemporary Christian lives. 6 October is the commemoration of St Bruno, founder of the Carthusians – one of the orders of monks and nuns that profoundly inspires me.
God,
you called Bruno to serve you
in a life of solitude,
inspired by his example,
may our hearts be fixed on you
amidst the swift and varied changes of the world,
through Jesus, the Christ,
who is alive with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Interesting but the photograph cannot be of Carthusian monks since they don’t have an abbot as superior (they look more like Cistercians to me).
You are correct, Jacques. The photo is of Aiguebelle Abbey, a Cistercian Abbey with about 24 monks. The photo is by Bruno Rotival – I write about him here. So that there is no confusion, I have changed the photo. Blessings.
