There is SO much not right with the world and the church that I regularly see myself heading in the direction of despair.
The World Peace Prayer – prayed daily by people of all faiths and recited by those with no faith – is one way that helps me move away from despair towards hope:
Lead me from death to life,
from falsehood to truth;
lead me from despair to hope,
from fear to trust;
lead me from hate to love,
from war to peace.
Let peace fill our heart,
our world, our universe.
Regular on this site, Phillip Saunders, reminded me of the wonderful video (above – I have this sung on CD) by Cyprian Consiglio, the Prior at Big Sur, New Camaldoli. I was blessed to make a retreat there, but Fr Cyprian wasn’t there at the time. I have a lot of his music.
Cyprian and some other Camaldolese monks were at the synod in the Vatican recently, part of leading worship:
Here also are some of Cyprian’s reflections.
