King James Bible

Many will be aware this year is 400 years since the publication of the King James or Authorised version of the Bible. To kick off that year I note three excellent BBC radio broadcasts by James Naughtie. NB – these broadcasts are only online for a week and I cannot see a way to download them 🙁 Each broadcast is 45 minutes long. [Update: in the comments below, there are three different ways to download.]

The Commission (online only 5 more days)
The Translation (6 days left)
The Legacy (7 days left)

[Thanks to several people who pointed out this series to me]

Yes, I saw that. I am not sure how some folks get around that requirement. Your audio links above work for me, but usually the BBC is off limits to me here in Mexico, especially video.

    1. That’s great, ELR, thanks so much. The podcasts download straight away and easily. There’s only one question – these are 28 minute podcasts, and the others were 45 minutes. Are these summaries or highlights? [I encourage you to use your ordinary name here please]. Thanks.

  2. Thanks! A big surprise tied into the 400th anniversary of the 1611 King James Version Bible:

Two scholars have compiled the first worldwide census of extant copies of the original first printing of the 1611 King James Version (sometimes referred to as the “He” Bible). For decades, authorities from the British Museum, et al., have estimated that “around 50 copies” of that first printing still exist. The real number is quite different.
