From one of our community, Debra Bullock, who is attending Slow Advent (have you signed up yet?):
I found this on slowfood.com and shared it with my congregation on Sunday:
the Slow Food Movement’s goal is “to counter the rise of fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.”
“as slow food is to tast food – so slow advent . . . . ” is to counter the rise of materialism and consumerism that bombards us this time of year, the disappearance of a focus on the traditions of the season and people’s dwindling interest in preparing for that for which they wait, how preparation feels and how the way we prepare impacts the rest of the world. . . ”
Thank you for moving us in this direction. I also shared this website with my congregation and I happily share it with you: http://www.readysteadyslow.org/ – daily video meditations for the season of advent.
Seriously: use http://www.readysteadyslow.org/. Someone can explain to me why the book isn’t digitally available? (Or is it?) For free?! Come on people – get with the third millennium!
We, in the Southern Hemisphere, have to find different metaphors to the Northern Hemisphere use of “darkness”.
Thanks for the illustrated 2 minute explanation of Advent. Very helpful.
I loved this and played it the 10am congregation (Advent in 2 mins). They loved it too, though it might have taken away a bit of my ‘slow advent’ message!
Yes, Jenny. I wrote that somewhere (maybe the facebook page) 🙂 Blessings.
