As I have so often pointed out on this site, the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia bends over backwards not only to give the impression that it is massive but that it is so dramatically diverse that to give even a suggestion of what might be celebrated will be taken as a threat to our individualism. “No one is going to tell me what to do!” So in New Zealand not only can you choose whatever collect you like (or make one up), but this Sunday is another good example of those days when the lectionary should make any liturgical Anglican blush. The (English-language) options for this coming Sunday are that one may celebrate any of the following:
- 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
- Proper 27
- 23rd Sunday after Pentecost
- 3rd Sunday before Advent
- Remembrance Sunday
- Feast of Christ in All Creation
(with, additionally, 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, and Proper 24 offered in the online version!)
As for the colours that our lectionary suggests, you can choose from
- Green
- Red
- White
- or Violet
That leaves, ummmm…
