As we celebrate half a century since landing on the Moon, it is fascinating to remember that the quarterly journal, Liturgical Arts, in its November 1967 issue focused on A Chapel on the Moon: 2000 A.D. It included architectural drawings, essays, and theological reflections.
Isaac Asimov had written an article, Moon Colony 2000 A.D., in the May 28, 1967, New York Times Magazine. He had included space for a chapel. Fr Terence J. Mangan, an Oratorian priest, developed the idea from there.
I suggest that the linking of spiritual growth with scientific and material progress is worth underlining. The plan included space for six Oratorian priests.
