Cultivating Contemplatives

As one who continually advocates for and encourages contemplative living, and a contemplative, prayerful foundation for Christian living and ministry, I’m heartened this week to see, locally, a Day of Contemplation, this Saturday 25 January 2020, (beginning at 10am) at the central-city Anglican Church of St Michael’s and All Angels (Cnr Durham St and Oxford Tce, Christchurch, NZ).

As well as this, there’s the announcement that the Sister Evelyn Retreat House Board is offering that retreat house (newly repaired after the quakes), with its stunning view, for people to form a short-term contemplative community.

You can read about these opportunities here. What opportunities encourage you, wherever you are? In part – people in your and my area can find out about these opportunities as we share them; but it also shows what is possible; what simple things can be done to encourage formation in contemplation.

In a world where people yearn for wellbeing, and movements like mindfulness are huge, we need to be creative in sharing the Christian contemplative tradition.
