There is a special place in my heart and personal spirituality for Camaldoli (my photo above), St Romuald, and the Camaldolese. This year the Camaldolese Benedictines are commemorating the 1,000th anniversary of the foundation of their motherhouse in Camaldoli, Italy, where St. Romuald encouraged the vocation of some monks to live in solitude as hermits.

Yesterday Christchurch Cathedral was deconsecrated. It is a building in which some of the most significant events in my life are focused. On 28 October, Bishop Victoria announced the Christchurch Anglican Cathedral, damaged in the earthquakes, would be deconsecrated on Wednesday, 9 November. The Cathedral has been earthquake-damaged previously (obviously not as severely as now)
I recently spotted the above church. No cross. And notice its logo: an apple with a bite out of it. Certainly a clash of symbols that makes me think… What do you think?
