collect/opening prayer reflection for Easter 7 June 5 and week following (Common Worship, CofE; BCP TEC USA)

In the Southern Hemisphere this is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

You need take no notice of NZ Lectionary recommendation to use Red. The colour for the Easter Season is white. Red is an eccentricity introduced without explanation in 2003. The colours “are not mandatory” but “are those likely to be used in most parishes”. I am not aware of any serious survey done in NZ parishes which ascertained that in 2001 “most parishes” used white and in 2002 they inexplicably changed to red! Nothing should distract us from understanding the 50 days of Easter as being one season. Ascension Day is a feast day within the Easter Season – not the start of some new season with suddenly a new colour!

The Easter/Paschal candle remains lit at all services until the end of the Easter Season on the Day of Pentecost.

Encourage consciousness of Easter being a season, not just a day – “attend” Easter is 50 days and invite your friends.

Please add hymns, prayers, ideas, resources in the comments.
