The Torah reading today, 5 Nisan, 5771 (April 9 2011) in the synagogue is called Metzora Leviticus 14:1-15:33
Last week I mentioned The Chumash: The Stone Edition (ArtScroll (Mesorah)) which gives the 54 constituent weekly Torah portions (parashiyyot) with translation and commentary. We have already discussed the issue with translating יהוה and the problems with the regular use of “The LORD”. This text sidesteps this by using HASHEM (“The Name”). Adonai (“Lord”) as a substitute for יהוה is then used solely in praying.
Leviticus 14:8 has immersion in water – one can clearly connect this to baptism.
NB. we are getting close to Passover. Passover begins at sunset on Monday, April 18, 2011 and continues through the evening of Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Western Easter Day is Sunday 24 April. This year Eastern Easter is on the same date.
The system of reading the Bible in three years on Saturdays reads part of the Sabbath reading each of the three years. You can find today’s portion and reflection here.
What were you taken by in the text?
Thank you, Bosco, for being a brother who also wishes to lift God’s Word to others in ways that find a systematic approach to be a blessing.
