Ordinary (“counting”) Time is a very common way of referring to where we are currently. We stop just before Lent, and (essentially) carry on counting where we left off after the Easter Season ends on the Day of Pentecost. The week before Lent is Week 5; the week following the Day of Pentecost is Week 7. Because some years have 53 weeks (as last year did) there has to be provision for an extra week – a week is dropped when there are 52 weeks in the year (as this year has).
