Great Christian festivals begin in the evening after sunset, are celebrated through the day and on into the next evening. Easter begins in the evening with the Easter Vigil and is celebrated for fifty days as one long festival.
Easter is a seventh of the year, the Great Sunday of the year, the 50 days of the Early Church, and Nicaea.
The Easter (Paschal) Candle is lit throughout these fifty days. And “Alleluia!” is added at almost every turn.
Facebook won’t let us celebrate Easter
In previous years the facebook liturgy page would host an Easter-is-50-days event with its own page and regular reflections, images, etc. Now, as you see in the image above, facebook has ruled that an event cannot be longer than 2 weeks! The secular world shares the difficulty Christians have in maintaining energy for a 50-day party.
